Bangla Kreeda makes impressive start
Under 17 Girls – Haryana, W.B., U.P., Jharkhand, Kerala give a good kickstart
New Delhi, September 16: Bangladesh Kreeda Shiksha made an impressive start to their campaign in the Sub-Junior Boys (Under-14) section with a convincing 2-1 victory over Namchi Sports Hostel (Sikkim) in the 56th Subroto Cup Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.

With just two foreign teams in fray in the Under-14 sections, it was a good outing for the team from Dhaka, considering the reputation of Namchi Sports Hostel teams have built over the years since the days of Bhaichung Bhutia.

It must be said to the credit of Bangladesh team who fortified and guarded their goal right from the opening minute even as they made continues raids in the rivals’ half. As a result, Mohammad Rakib scored the first goal for the winners in the 16th minute and three minutes later Mohammad Raja made it 2-0. A sudden thrust and desperate Sikkim side combined well in the midfield to reduce the margin through Brijesh in the 24th minute.

In fact, the entire action in the match got over by the time teams went for the break. What followed on resumption was a boring game as teams, realizing each other’s potential, concentrated on defence—and defence alone.

In the other match, where the second foreign team was participating, Afghanistan defeated Meghalaya 1-0 it was a tight fight and Rashed scored the maiden goal in 27th minute.

Earlier in the day, the schoolboys from Goa taught a lesson in football to Coast Guard Public School from Daman in Pool G, humiliating the latter 10-0. It was a hapless side from Daman and Diu which had no clue to what was coming from the opposite side. The Goans, on the other hand, scored at will and with authority that the Daman boys could hardly cross the half-line as their entire concentration was confined to their side. Even after the breather, there was hardly any breathing space for the Goan neighbours.

Shamom A Viega was the star player for the winners as he struck three goals, opening the side’s account in the second minute and following it up with a goal in the eighth and 36th minutes. Anothny (2), Alger, Elijan, Sankat and Da Costa joined the party to complete a 10-0 rout.

In another match in the same pool, Sainik School from Imphal went about the task methodically against St. John’s School from Chandigarh with a 4-0 verdict. Obviously, the Chandigarh outfit was no match to their rivals as Zaberth Dousel scored a brace (20, 39) while Rohit Heman struck in the second half. The Chandigarh team’s misery was complete when Davyo scored an own goal towards the close.

In the Junior Girls (Under-17) category, which opened today, SP Mary’s Higher Sec. School, Tamil Nadu beat Presbyterian English School, Mizoram 6-0 while in the other outing, Meghalaya made a mockery of Kerala squad with a 8-0 verdict. For Tamil Nadu M. Malavika (3), A. Karthika, K. Rasika and S. Nanthini scored while for the Meghalaya girls Dynsun scored five goals while one goal each came from the boots of Jullura, Aidaris and Biahunlang.
