Hero Indian Women’s League 2017-18 Final Round

Sethu Football Club (Madurai) go down to KRYHPSA (Manipur) in opening fixture

Sethu Football Club (Madurai) went down 5-0 to KRYHPSA (Manipur) in their opening fixture of the Hero Indian Women’s League 2017-18 Final Round in Shillong on Tuesday but not before some positive moments that saw them take two good attempts at the goal.

Midfielder M Nandhini and forward Sabina Khatun took good shots at the goal but the Manipur team had the better of the exchanges with Nongmaithem Ratan Bala Devi scoring two.

“They are a very experienced side,” said Sethu FC coach Kalpana Dass about the opposition. “Given that our girls are still relatively new on the big stage, I’d say it was only expected. Our girls starting drawing back to defend and weren’t in a position to challenge.”

The final round of the championship comprises seven teams, with the top four making it to the semifinals following an all-play-all league.

Sethu FC next play Gokulam Kerala FC on March 29.
