56th Subroto Cup Football Tournament update

Subroto Cup Day 9

Carlos boost to U-14 finalists as Afghanistan to take on Mizoram (India)

New Delhi, September 22: Even as the Subroto Cup Education Society, the organizers of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, is going all out and preparing to receive all-time Brazilian great Pele next month, the D-Day seems to have arrived a couple of weeks before, at least for the Sub-Junior (Under-14) Boys finalists on 24th September 2015 (Afghanistan and Mizoram), if not for the football fans of Delhi.

The football fans will witness to another Brazilian great, Roberto Carlos, whose left-foot is more famous than most footballers’ right. The player-manager of Delhi Dynamos, along with other team members, will make his appearance at the Ambedkar Stadium on 24th September 2015 at 3 p.m., cheering and rooting the finalists.
Delhi Dynamos FC has signed up Carlos this July as the player-manager for the ISL squad and the entire team has had a fruitful training for……weeks at……under the watchful eyes of the great defender for the second ISL season which kick-starts on October 3.
Roberto Carlos, whose exploits and skills are too well known, had sent his wishes for the tournament before it started from base camp in …. and his presence now along with Delhi Dynamos team mates in their jerseys at the final on Thursday, September 24, is bound to up the ante, especially among the Carlos fan clubs.

Carlos, as we all know, has been an inspiration for not just the Brazilian squad but a a couple of generations of footballers the world over. His famous No. 6 jersey and the free-kick against France with that kind of swerve is a part of the soccer folklore. Those who were privileged to have watched the legend’s left-foot free-kick, from about 35 metres from opponents’ goal, are still searching for an equivalent, without an answer.

Delhi Dynamos in its new season have also signed Robin Singh and Anans Edathodika during the auction this year held at Mumbai along with a good mix of other Indian players. One of the biggest thrills for an Indian football fan watching the ISL is the arrival of marquee players in country but the charismatic presence of Roberto Carlos will be real the jewel in the crown.
