Sethu Football Club (Madurai) turned in a spirited display to put it past Rising
Student Club (Odisha) 2-0 for their second win in three games in the Hero Indian
Women’s League 2017-18 Final Round in Shillong on Monday.
Bangladeshi recruit Sabina Khatun and Manisha scored in the second half while
goalkeeper N Sowmiya put in another Player of the match performance under the
bar to give absolutely no chances to the opposition offence.
Sabina and Manisha had fired in the 2-0 win over Gokulam Kerala FC in the previous
game to help the Madurai side bounce back from a first-round defeat.
Sethu FC is the only team from Tamil Nadu in the premier women’s competition
organized by the All India Football Federation.
“Our girls played really well, I could feel their confidence even at training
yesterday,” said Sethu FC coach Kalpana Dass. “We played freely and with an open
mind and I think that helped us,” she added.
The final round of the championship comprises seven teams, with the top four
making it to the semifinals following an all-play- all league.
Sethu FC next play India Rush Soccer Club (Maharashtra) on Wednesday.
